Commanding Officer
Lieutenant Colonel Michael F. Clevenger

LtCol Clevenger is from Phoenix, AZ.  He was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the Marine Corps via the Platoon Leaders Course in May 2004, having completed his undergraduate education in Interdisciplinary Studies at Arizona State University.

Following The Basic School and Infantry Officer Course, he was assigned to 2d Battalion, 7th Marines at 29 Palms, CA in May 2005.  During this tour, LtCol Clevenger served as a rifle platoon commander, company executive officer, company commander, and battalion training officer.  In 2005 and again in 2007, he executed two deployments in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

In December 2007, then First Lieutenant Clevenger was transferred to Recruiting Station Phoenix where he served as the Executive Officer.  In 2009 he was selected to attend Expeditionary Warfare School (EWS) for academic year 2010-2011.  Upon completion of EWS, now Captain Clevenger was selected to augment Officer Candidate School (OCS) as a platoon commander with Bravo Company.

Following OCS, Captain Clevenger was assigned to 3d Battalion, 1st Marines Camp Pendleton, CA to serve as the Battalion Landing Team’s (BLT) assistant operations officer during the WestPac 11-2 deployment with the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU).  Upon Return, Captain Clevenger took command of Lima Company and deployed to Okinawa, Japan in support of the Unit Deployment Program – West.  After his selection to major, Captain Clevenger was selected to become the battalion’s operations officer, again deploying as BLT 3/1 with the 15th MEU on WestPac 15-2.

In February 2016, Major Clevenger transferred to 1st Marine Regiment to serve as the assistant operations officer until he transferred to Quantico, VA to attend Command and Staff College for academic year 2016-2017.  Upon completion, he reported to Marine Combat Training Battalion, School of Infantry – West to serve as the battalion executive officer.

After selection to LtCol, Major Clevenger was transferred to the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit in December 2019 to serve as the operations officer.  In October 2020, LtCol Clevenger deployed in support of WestPac 22-1 with the Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group.  Shortly after his return in May 2021, he transferred to Expeditionary Strike Group – 3 to serve as the Assistant Chief of Staff – Plans.  LtCol Clevenger assumed his current duties as the Commanding Officer of Marine Combat Training Battalion, School of Infantry-East at Camp Geiger, NC on 29 June 2022. 

LtCol Clevenger’s personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal (3rd award), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (2nd award), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and Combat Action Ribbon.
