Headquarters and Support Battalion provides essential operational, administrative, logistical, and legal services to SOI-E, training units and permanent personnel in order to facilitate the development of entry level and advanced students, as well as permanent personnel.

Lieutenant Colonel Timothy J. Hooten was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the Marine Corps in December 2008, having completed his undergraduate and graduate education at the University of Memphis. Following The Basic School and Air Support Control Officer Course, he was assigned to Marine Air Support Squadron 2, Okinawa, Japan, in November 2009. During this tour, Lieutenant Colonel Hooten served as a Platoon Commander, Company Executive Officer, and deployed twice in support of the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit.

Sergeant Major Zurn was born in Bloomer, Wisconsin. He enlisted in the Marine Corps in 2004. Upon completing recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, CA, he reported to Marine Combat Training (MCT) at the School of Infantry, Camp Pendleton, CA. Following MCT, he graduated from Marine Corps Engineer School and went on to serve as a Combat Engineer with Combat Engineer Company, Combat Assault Battalion, Camp Schwab, Okinawa, Japan.
