The vision of the Learning and Development (L&D) department is to support the mission of the School of Infantry-East (SOI-E) by creating, promoting, and fostering the requisite knowledge, skills, and capacities that enable the training and development of Marine Combat Instructors, basic riflemen, entry-level infantry, and advanced infantry Marines.
In alignment with Training and Education Command, Training Command, and SOI-E campaign plans, L&D is devoted to instructor professionalization and the application of outcomes-based design to enhance learning, long-term retention, and far-transfer of knowledge and skill application through the development of creative, innovative, and forward-thinking learning programs.
In addition to providing professional academic advisement to commanders, L&D maintains a focus on achieving designated skill acquisition levels through the collective application of multiple skills or “competencies” throughout learning programs while also providing training and education to the SOI-E staff and faculty on course development, instructor development, assessment and evaluation, action research experimentation, Marine Net, and MCTIMS to sustain and increase individual and organizational effectiveness and efficiency where applicable.
