First Sergeant Guel was born in San Antonio, Texas. He enlisted in the Marine Corps on 11 December 2006. He attended recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego, California. After graduating recruit training he attended Marine Combat Training (MCT) at Camp Pendleton, California. Following completion of MCT he attended MOS A school at Pensacola, Florida. Upon graduation of A school he attended C school at Cherry Point, North Carolina for training as an Aviation Mechanic (6212). In September 2007, he was promoted to the rank of Lance Corporal.
In January 2008, First Sergeant Guel received orders to Marine Corps Air Station Yuma, Marine Attack Squadron (VMA) 311, where he served as the Powerline Division NCOIC, Collateral Duty Quality Assurance Representative, and NATOPS High Power Instructor. In April 2008, First Sergeant Guel deployed to Camp Al Asad Airbase, Iraq as an AV8B Plane Captain. During this period, he supported Operation Iraqi Freedom VI, Operation Lion's Paw, and Operation al Salam. In September 2008, he was promoted to the rank of Corporal.
In January 2010, First Sergeant Guel received orders to the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), Okinawa, Japan, where he served as the Powerline NCOIC. He deployed to Thailand in support of multilateral exercises Cobra Gold, Foal Eagle, and Balikatan. In May 2010, First Sergeant Guel was promoted to the rank of Sergeant.
In June 2011, upon successfully returning from the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, First Sergeant Guel received orders to Kandahar, Afghanistan in support of VMA-513, Operation Enduring Freedom 13.1. First Sergeant Guel served as the Tiger Team detachment NCOIC. After returning from Afghanistan, First Sergeant Guel served as the FPCON BRAVO Crisis Management Force Reaction Team Platoon Sergeant for Marine Corps Air Station Yuma.
In December 2011, First Sergeant Guel deployed as part of the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), Kadena Air Force Base Japan. During this time, he served as the VMA-311 Powerline NCOIC in support of exercise Foal Eagle and exercise Ssang Yong.
In November 2012, First Sergeant Guel received orders to the Quality Assurance Division, VMA-311, where he served as the Quality Assurance SNCOIC. In April 2013, First Sergeant Guel deployed to Camp Bastion, Helmand Province, Afghanistan, in support of Operation Enduring Freedom 13.1-13.2.
In July 2014, First Sergeant Guel received orders to Drill Instructor School Class 4-14, Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, California. Upon graduating, he was assigned to 1st Recruit Training Battalion, Company C, where he served nine full cycles as a Drill Instructor, Experienced Drill Instructor, Senior Drill Instructor, and Chief Drill Instructor. In January 2015 First Sergeant Guel was promoted to Staff Sergeant.
In September 2017, First Sergeant Guel received orders to Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, Marine Attack Squadron (VMA) 542, where he immediately deployed in support of the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit and Operation Inherent Resolve. In November of 2018 First Sergeant Guel was promoted to Gunnery Sergeant.
In April of 2021, First Sergeant Guel checked into the United States Naval Academy where he served as a Senior Enlisted Leader for 13th and 22nd Company. In May of 2022 Gunnery Sergeant Guel was promoted to First Sergeant. Shortly thereafter, First Sergeant Guel received orders to Wounded Warrior Battalion East, Walter Reed Detachment.
In October of 2023, First Sergeant Guel checked into the School of Infantry East, Marine Combat Training Battalion, and was assigned to Marine Combat Training Battalion East where he currently resides as the Battalion Sergeant Major.
First Sergeant Guel's personal decorations include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal in lieu of 3rd award, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal in lieu of 3rd award, Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal and a Bachelor's of Science in Business Administration from Embry Riddle Aerounatical University and a Masters in Business Administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Business school. First Sergeant Guel is currently pursuing a degree at Harvard Business School.
