Sergeant Major Derek S. Lisowski

Sergeant Major Lisowski was born in Cleveland, Ohio.  He enlisted in the Marine Corps in 2002 and reported to Marine Corps Recruit Depot (MCRD), Parris Island, SC.  Upon graduation he was meritoriously promoted to Private First Class and attended Marine Combat Training at the School of Infantry, Camp Geiger, NC.  Subsequently, he reported to Marine Corps Detachment, Fort Bliss, Texas earning the Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) 7212, Low Altitude Air Defense Gunner. 

Upon completion of MOS school, Sergeant Major Lisowski was assigned to 1st Stinger Battery, Marine Air Control Group-18, Futenma, Okinawa, Japan.  He was promoted to Lance Corporal in September 2003 and four months later deployed with the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) Special Operations Capable (SOC).  He was promoted to Corporal during that deployment.

In August 2005, Sergeant Major Lisowski executed orders to 2d Low Altitude Air Defense Battalion, Marine Air Control Group-28, Cherry Point, NC.  He was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in May 2006.  Shortly after, he deployed with the 24th MEU (SOC) until the winter of 2006.  In April 2008, he deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom where he served as Platoon Sergeant and was combat meritoriously promoted to Staff Sergeant in October of 2008.

Sergeant Major Lisowski attended Drill Instructor School at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, SC in January 2010 and earned the MOS 0911.  Upon completion, he was assigned to 1st Recruit Training Battalion where he served as Drill Instructor and Senior Drill Instructor.  He was later reassigned to Drill Instructor School where he served as an Instructor.

In April 2013, Sergeant Major Lisowski reported to 3d Low Altitude Air Defense Battalion, Marine Air Control Group-38, Camp Pendleton, CA.  In November 2013 he was promoted to Gunnery Sergeant.  He deployed in September 2014 in support of the Special Purpose Marine Air Ground Task Force-Crisis Response Central Command as a Battery Operations Chief.  Upon his return, Sergeant Major Lisowski served as the Battery First Sergeant.

In April 2017, Sergeant Major Lisowski was frocked to the rank of First Sergeant, and executed orders to 3d Battalion, 3d Marines, 3d Marine Division, Marine Corps Base Hawaii, Kaneohe Bay, HI.  He served as the Company L and Headquarters and Service Company First Sergeant.

In March 2020, Sergeant Major Lisowski executed orders to 3d Marine Raider Battalion, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. Sergeant Major Lisowski served as the Senior Enlisted Leader for Company K, and deployed in support of Operation Octave Shield.

In April 2022, Sergeant Major Lisowski was frocked, and received orders to School of Infantry – East (SOI-E), to serve as the Infantry Training Battalion Sergeant Major.  In June 2023, Sergeant Major Lisowski was appointed as the Segreant Major for Headquarters and Support Battalion, SOI-E.  

Sergeant Major Lisowski’s personal decorations include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with one silver stars in lieu of sixth award and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal one gold star in lieu of second award.
