Command Senior Enlisted Leader
SgtMaj Steven L. Ramga

Sergeant Major Ramga enlisted in the United States Marine Corps on 31 July 1997 on the Delayed Entry Program. He reported to recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, SC on 27 May 1998. After graduating recruit training, he reported to Company C, Infantry Training Battalion, School of Infantry (East), Camp Geiger, NC, where he attended the Basic Rifleman Course.

 
In October 1998, Private Ramga reported to 3d Battalion, 4th Marines in Twentynine Palms, CA. He was promoted to private first class in November 1998, lance corporal in July 1999, and corporal in July 2001. Throughout his tour of duty, he served in Company K as a rifleman and automatic rifleman, and Weapons Company as a mortarman and mortar squad leader. He deployed to Okinawa, Japan twice as part of the Unit Deployment Program from July 1999 to January 2000 and July 2001 to January 2002.

 
In March 2002, Corporal Ramga reported to the School of Infantry (East), Camp Geiger, NC for duty as a combat instructor. After graduating from the Marine Combat Trainer Instructor Course, he served as a combat instructor in Company E, Marine Combat Training Battalion. In December 2002, he was promoted to sergeant. In April 2004, Sergeant Ramga assumed responsibility as the Separations Platoon Sergeant for Student Administration Company.

    
Sergeant Ramga reported to Company A, 1st Battalion, 6th Marines in Camp Lejeune, NC in December 2005. He served as a squad leader and mobile assault section leader during the battalion's deployment to Ramadi, Iraq in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM from September 2006 to May 2007. He served as a platoon sergeant throughout 1st Battalion, 6th Marines' workup as the ground combat element for 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU). He was promoted to staff sergeant in November 2007, and deployed with the 24th MEU to Afghanistan in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM from February 2008 to October 2008.


Staff Sergeant Ramga reported to the Mountain Warfare Training Center (MWTC) in Bridgeport, CA in February 2009 for duty as a mountain warfare instructor. Throughout his tour of duty at MWTC, Staff Sergeant Ramga served as a unit instructor, Mountain Leaders Course instructor, and military ski instructor. He participated in a ten-day exchange program in Tashkent, Republic of Uzbekistan in April 2010.


In May 2012, Staff Sergeant Ramga reported to 2d Battalion, 2d Marines. From June 2012 to July 2013, he was assigned to an individual augment billet with Marine Corps Training Mission, United Arab Emirates (UAE), where he served as a foreign security force advisor and team staff noncommissioned officer in charge for the UAE Presidential Guard Reconnaissance Group Training Team. Staff Sergeant Ramga redeployed to Camp Lejeune and rejoined 2d Battalion, 2d Marines in July 2013. Throughout this tour, he served as the Battalion Assistant Operations Chief and as a Platoon Sergeant and Company Gunnery Sergeant in Company G. He deployed to Norway from February to March 2014 for Exercise Cold Response 2014 and to Romania from August 2014 to January 2015 as a member of Special Purpose Marine Air Ground Task Force Crisis Response Africa.

 
Gunnery Sergeant Ramga reported to Marine Aviation Training Support Group 22, Naval Air Station Corpus Christi, TX in June 2015 for duty as the operations and training chief.  In April 2018, he was frocked to first sergeant and was posted as the senior enlisted advisor for the unit.


In June 2018, First Sergeant Ramga reported to Headquarters Battalion, 3d Marine Division in Okinawa, Japan. Throughout his tour of duty, he served as the Unit Senior Enlisted Leader for Truck Company and Communications Company.

 
First Sergeant Ramga applied and was selected to attend the U.S. Army Sergeants Major Course Class 71 and reported to the U.S. Army NCO Leadership Center of Excellence in Fort Bliss, TX in July 2020. He graduated from the Sergeants Major Course in June 2021.


In July 2021, First Sergeant Ramga reported to 8th Communications Battalion, Camp Lejeune, NC. In August 2021, he was assigned to temporary additional duty as the Command Senior Enlisted Leader, 2d Air Naval Gunfire Liaison Company (ANGLICO). He was frocked to sergeant major on 10 November 2021 and was permanently assigned as the Command Senior Enlisted Leader, 2d ANGLICO. In January 2023, he deployed to Norway to support Exercise Joint Viking 2023.

 
Sergeant Major Ramga reported to the School of Infantry (East), Camp Geiger, NC in June 2023, where he presently serves as the Command Senior Enlisted Leader, Infantry Training Battalion.


Sergeant Major Ramga holds a Baccalaureate of Arts Degree in Social and Criminal Justice from Ashford University and a Master of Science Degree in Management from Excelsior College. Sergeant Major Ramga's personal awards include the Purple Heart, Meritorious Service Medal with one gold star, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with two gold stars and combat V, the Combat Action Ribbon with one gold star, and various other service and campaign medals.
